What is the youngest age kids can compete to play junior amateur golf?
I live in a golf neighborhood and play golf constantly. I go to the range about 2-3 times a week and started taking my son to the range last year and introduced him to golf for the first time. He is now three and totally loves the sport. He has his own set of junior clubs and comes with me to the range almost all the time. At home, we plays WII golf everyday and puts aside all over sports. I know that he genuinely loves the game and want to get him more involved as he grows older. What is youngest age he can start to compete to play junior amateur golf? Also, what is a good age to start
getting him into lessons to learn proper mechanics and what not. Right now I just teach him fundamentals of gripping the club, swinging techniques, putting, and chipping, but by no means am I a pro.
I have golfed for, well my whole life. I was probably no taller than a 9 iron. I golfed almost every day. However, I only began lessons at 6 years old, these were only lessons that could keep a young kids attention, in other words exactly what you are doing with your son. You must be 9 in order to begin professional lessons from golf courses where there are professional golfers.
To answer your question the age limit for amateur golf competitions, as in golf tournaments where you can win prizes and play an 18 hole game against others in tournaments is 11 - 18 years of age.
