I need a mechanic please !! VW with a problem?
I have a golf gt tdi 130 pd, it runs perfectly untill i put my foot down in 5th and 6th gear then the power dies at approx 3000rpm, the turbo obviously isn't boosting.
If i turn the ignition off and then back on its fine again ! *untill next time i put my foot down*
The engine management light has never shown, nor any other warning lights.
Ive taken it to a few local garages and had the diagnostic machine put on it but they have all said there are codes coming up but cant work out what the codes are as my car is an import (UK Spec) and the codes are different.
They seem to think its the airflow meter but they are not sure !
Does it sound like an airflow meter problem to you ?
Anyone else experienced this before ?
Ive been told its a common fault on vw's. I refuse to take it to a vw dealer and get stung for a few hundred pounds !!
Im taking it to be tested again tomorrow so il get the codes and let you all know !
It's surprising that no engine warning light appears when you have this problem occur...is the engine warning light bulb fitted or has it been removed due to this fault and the car has then been sold to you? Do you notice any excess smoke when it lacks power,or the engine dies?
A diagnostic test would show a fault with the MAS,it could be several things,faulty CAT,air filter restriction,is the air hose fitted tightly enough to the turbo,does it have a split in it somewhere so it would draw in more air,causing a lack of power..could be anything...Could you be a little more specific with what actually happens?
The other problem is most main dealers don't like dealing with imports for some unknown reason....they will try everything to put you off having them repair it.
