What would be the best filler for a small boxed golf green?
I have a bare square patch in my yard about 8' X 8'. I was thinking about putting a square of boards around it that stick up to make a small box. I wanted to fill in that box with a filler of certain types of materials. I would then put down a square of fake green over that to make a relatively cheap putting green. My question is what would be a good filler for that? I was thinking definitely putting down packed sand but what would be good on top of that to make breaking greens but also not squishy where you stand on it and it makes dents.
I would also add a plastic liner to that box to keep some water damage away.
I'd fill with the cheapest "Fill Dirt" you can get. Then top with a clay/sand or Clay/soil or similar that is often sold as walkway pavement. It can be shaped how you like, then packed firm.
Then your landscape fabric, and AstroTurf.
