Putter Fitting
When putting your baby down to sleep, when do you give in?
I have been trying to put my daughter (8 months) to sleep without me nursing her, or rocking her to sleep. It took about an hour and a half of her screaming and me checking on her every 2-3 minutes.. putter her down back in her crib (she was standing up every time) and rubbing her back, and telling her its Night night time.. I finally gave in, and rocked/nursed her to sleep, but she wasn't even hungry, it was like a comfort suck, not a hungry suck... now she is out like a rock. I don't want her to rely on this every night. I need her to go to sleep on her own.
I was doing this:
bath
massage
jammies
nursing/rocking
rocking to sleep
now I bath/jammies/nursing rocking/brush teeth/story together in my arms/sleep in crib. She is usually really good, until the last few sentences then knows its almost over and she starts to throw a fit and wants to play.. even though she is REALLY tired..
Are you going to be working when it's her bedtime and that's why you want her to stop comfort nursing at bedtime? If not, then why not let her continue getting comfort from you? Not trying to be mean, so no offense intended. 8 months is still young and plenty inside the age that relies on you for comfort.
